Have you seen the book Knitting Socks with Handpainted Yarn by Carol Sulcoski? It full of beautiful patterns for all types of handpainted yarns. I’m personally in love with the Escher Socks by Lorna Miser, and think I’ll need to cast on for a pair soon.

I’ve got one copy to give away along with a skein of Merino Fine (random color will be selected for you), and you can have a chance to win for the low, low price of a comment below. This giveaway is open until the end of Thanksgiving weekend, and the winner will be announced here Monday, November 30th. US residents only on this one, kids.
Happy Friday! To celebrate my updated pattern page and ravelry pattern store, I’m celebrating by gifting two lucky fans with two free patterns each and 15% off their next order.

Just leave a comment below describing your favorite type of comfort project. Simple socks? A warm scarf? Granny squares? What do you reach for when you just want to enjoy the simple pleasures of quiet time and yarn?

Winners will be chosen at random on Tuesday morning, and can have their pick of any two KSD patterns, delivered in PDF format. Etsy shop discount is good through December 31st, 2009.

Autumn Cycle by Moriza
This week brings the official arrival of the autumn season, and while the weather here in Alabama isn’t exactly cool and crisp, my mind is still turning toward the changes of the season. I have fall color on the brain, and I’m thinking up some new ideas for autumn colorways.
To celebrate the turning of the season, this Friday’s freebie is a giveaway contest for a skein of our Luxe Merino Fine, a luscious cashmere blend, in Trafford, a rich autumnal gold.
Leave a comment below telling about which color combinations make you think of autumn, perhaps something traditional, but maybe something off the beaten path, like your favorite fall outfit, the color of a cozy room, or another memory of the season.
Winner will be picked by random number generator Monday morning and announced here. Check back to see if you are the lucky winner!

Teish!
Teish, please e-mail me (mail-at-kitchensinkdyeworks-dot-com) and let me know which colorway you’d like, and your shipping address.
Thank you everyone for all of your great suggestions! I’ll get to work on some of your technique suggestions and see what clicks. I have to say, the beads intrigue me…
Renegade was a blast, and I’ll post a roundup tomorrow! I must say, I love Chicago.
I love to learn new techniques; I’m a learning junkie (for example, last week’s hex patchwork mania).

This project keeps on growing!
I love it even MORE when I can share those newfound bits of knowledge with other fiber folk! So you can guess how fired up I am about the tutorial days in our new Friday series. I have a few things in mind, but what I’d love to know what knitting/crochet/fiber related tutorials you would like to see here in upcoming posts.
So this week’s freebie is nice and simple: leave a comment telling what type of tutorial you’d love to see here on the Kitchen Sink blog, and you’ll be entered to win a custom-dyed skein of our Blue Faced Lace yarn, great for socks, lace and, I must say, absolutely dreamy for crochet. I’ll take entries through Monday evening, then randomly draw a winner when I arrive back from Chicago on Tuesday. The winner can then choose a colorway for their special skein.

Don’t forget, voting ends tomorrow for the Ravelry Dye for Glory contest. Go place your votes!
Check out my interview by Steph Calvert of the OC Weekly blog! There’s a reader giveaway, so be sure to leave a comment for a chance to win a skein of Kitchen Sink Dyework’s yarn.

Elwood the intrepid mascot.
We have a winner, and a name! The duck has been dubbed Elwood! Thanks, Melissa, for the winning name idea. Melissa, send me an e-mail to let me know which kit you would prefer (Pavo Real or Saturday Socks), and I’ll send it right out to you.
Perhaps I need to adopt a brother for Elwood named Jake?
I’ve been raiding my stash of KSD yarns (one-off batches, etc.) to crochet some tiny baby sweaters for the family’s newest arrival, Jordyn, my husband’s cousin’s preemie daughter (my cousin by marriage? I can never keep those things straight.) She’s tiny, but doing well!
I overshot the size on the first sweater out of habit (it’s maybe 6-12 months?), but it can be worn later; now I’m working on a puff-stitch round yoked cardi. I feel like I’m making doll clothes, but I know that it’s technically the right size.

Thank you everyone who entered their ideas in the “Name That Duck” contest! I’ll be going over the entries today and announcing a winner tomorrow. Stay tuned!

The duck in question.
You’ve seen this rubber duck in sheep’s clothing here on Kitchen Sink’s blog. Well, this poor ducky needs a name!
We’re having a contest to name our little mascot. Simply leave your name idea as a comment below, along with your story or idea behind your name suggestion.
We’ll accept entries through 8am Monday morning, then announce the winner on Tuesday! The winner will receive their choice of one of our Saturday Sock kits with soft Superwash Sock yarn, or one of our Pavo Real shawl kits with luscious Merino Bamboo Fine yarn.
