There’s been a lot of chat in the internet craft community about the joy and power of FREE, as in sharing creative works for free to spread goodwill. I love this idea, sharing tutorials and ideas, but I wanted to take it a step further. So here’s my next big thing, a free online class where I’m not only sharing knitting knowledge, but giving you the opportunity to share some free, too.
Visit my class site to sign up for a completely free online video class on how to knit socks with the Magic Loop technique. The class project is a teeny pair of toddler socks that can be (but don’t have to be, your choice, no pressure) donated to Children in Common. CIC helps provide warm clothing and other assistance to children living in orphanages in Russia and the rest of the former soviet Union.

Have you seen the book Knitting Socks with Handpainted Yarn by Carol Sulcoski? It full of beautiful patterns for all types of handpainted yarns. I’m personally in love with the Escher Socks by Lorna Miser, and think I’ll need to cast on for a pair soon.

I’ve got one copy to give away along with a skein of Merino Fine (random color will be selected for you), and you can have a chance to win for the low, low price of a comment below. This giveaway is open until the end of Thanksgiving weekend, and the winner will be announced here Monday, November 30th. US residents only on this one, kids.

The duck in question.
You’ve seen this rubber duck in sheep’s clothing here on Kitchen Sink’s blog. Well, this poor ducky needs a name!
We’re having a contest to name our little mascot. Simply leave your name idea as a comment below, along with your story or idea behind your name suggestion.
We’ll accept entries through 8am Monday morning, then announce the winner on Tuesday! The winner will receive their choice of one of our Saturday Sock kits with soft Superwash Sock yarn, or one of our Pavo Real shawl kits with luscious Merino Bamboo Fine yarn.

I was so excited to see beautiful bright sun out this morning, not only because it’s been a bit gray here for the last week, but also because I had new projects that needed to be photographed! One project, a pair of socks, needed to be modeled on the hoof to open up the lace pattern nicely, so I fetched my husband to be photographer on those while I played hosiery model.
We have* lovely rustic benches and chairs made of rough-hewn branches on our front porch. I use them often as photo props. So I went to sit on a bench to put on the socks, and CRASH! I fell straight through the bench. Winter weather had not been kind to the furniture, and the branches has gotten brittle, nails had loosened. Luckily I just got away with a few scrapes and scratches (and the camera I was holding in one hand did not got dropped, whew!). I did get stuck though, in a ridiculously comedic way, and my husband helped haul me back to my feet once he popped his head out of the front door.

The Carnage.
The photo session continued, and we decided that none of the furniture is really safe anymore. We haven’t found a purpose for all of it, but the above bench did find new life as a trellis for the clematis vine. And we’ll be shopping for new porch furniture this week!

Perfect!
So that’s my resurrection story for Easter morning. Have a lovely holiday!
*had, sigh.
See us at Sock Summit, August 6th-9th in Portland, Oregon! We’re so excited to be a part of this amazing event, and can’t wait to meet all of you Northwestern knitters.
